Fleas & Ticks

Fleas are tiny reddish-brown, thin, oval insects that feed on blood roughly about 1/8 inch in size. They have large hind legs and can leap over 8 inches horizontally and prefer warm humid habitats. In the United states there are over 300 species of fleas known to inhabit the most common being the cat flea. As it's name states, cats along with other pets can be a host for these insects and can spread to humans through proximity. They can become a nuisance in the house making it feel like your skin is scrawling with persistent itching.

How to spot them:

  • If your pet has scratchy itchy skin

  • Visibly see them jumping around

  • If you begin to have itchy skin

Ticks are similar to fleas, feeding on blood,  but usually attach to their host for longer periods of time. They are small, reddish-brown, can vary in size and have 8 legs. Ticks can spread deadly disease, the most well-known being the Bubonic Plague in the mid-1300's. Lyme disease is largely spread by contact with an infected tick and can lay dormant for months or years until you shows signs.

How to spot them:

  • If you live in a woody are

  • Visibly seeing them on your skin or pet
